De manera paral\u00b7lela es va desenvolupar altre tendencia, encara pendent de revalorar. Rep el nom d\u2019eclecticisme, un terme dif\u00edcil de definir. D\u2019una banda perqu\u00e8 consisteix a combinar diferents estils del passat. D\u2019altra banda, perqu\u00e8 s\u2019ha estudiat molt poc i falten clars referents. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Altra paradoxa de l\u2019eclecticisme rau en el fet que, a la pr\u00e0ctica, ells seus edificis, malgrat la seva abundor i monumentalitat, <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">es veuen per\u00f2 no es miren<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span>Davant d&#8217;ells no veurem turistes fent cua per visitar-los o fer-se un selfie. Tampoc veurem &#8220;locals&#8221;. <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ara b\u00e9, en el seu temps, va gaudir de gran estimaci\u00f3. Tanta, de fet, que amb ell es van construir els principals edificis p\u00fablics de les grans capitals d\u2019Europa i ciutats com La Habana. Fins i tot, avui en dia, moltes de les gestions cotidianes es fan en un d&#8217;ells. Per exemple, l&#8217;edifici de la foto de capcelera: el Palau de Justicia de Barcelona, construit a 1887 per Enric Sagnier.\u00a0 <\/span>En l&#8217;actualitat, allotja el Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Catalunya (TSJC) i l&#8217;Audi\u00e8ncia Provincial de Barcelona, aix\u00ed com llurs arxius i biblioteques, a m\u00e9s a m\u00e9s d&#8217;una zona de cust\u00f2dia de detinguts, i sales per al cos m\u00e8dic forense, els col\u00b7legis d&#8217;advocats i procuradors, el servei de correus, l&#8217;oficina d&#8217;atenci\u00f3 al ciutad\u00e0 i depend\u00e8ncies dels Mossos d&#8217;Esquadra. Quanta gent el deu &#8220;veure&#8221; a diari sense atuar-se a mirar-ho?<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A Europa<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Es considera que l\u2019eclecticisme va ser una derivaci\u00f3 de l\u2019historicisme, estil amb el qual comparteix la inspiraci\u00f3 en el passat, per\u00f2 amb objectius diferents. L\u2019historicisme vol imitar les tradicions hist\u00f2riques que l\u2019han precedit, mentre que l\u2019eclecticisme cerca crear una cosa nova a partir de combinar elements diversos en una mateixa obra. Haussmann.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>La primera pedra es va posar el 1861 i la seva inauguraci\u00f3 oficial es va celebrar el 1875. No obstant aix\u00f2, ning\u00fa pot dir que mai ha vist una obra d\u2019aquest estil, donat el seu car\u00e0cter institucional: diputacions, ajuntaments, seus ministerials o bors\u00e0ries, estacions, mercats, teatres, escoles, bancs, hotels. Per una llista m\u00e9s completa, veure: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkiplus.com\/eclecticismo-en-espana\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Eclecticismo en Espanya<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0i <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Categor%C3%ADa:Arquitectura_ecl%C3%A9ctica_en_Espa%C3%B1a\">Arquitectura ecl\u00e8ctica en Espa\u00f1a<\/a>. <\/span>A m\u00e9s, alguns d&#8217;aquests edificis s&#8217;han convertit en referents ic\u00f2nics, com l&#8217;edifici Metropolis, possiblement el\u00a0 m\u00e9s fotografiat de Madrid i protagonista de m\u00e9s d&#8217;un quadre del conegut pintor Antonio L\u00f3pez (per exemple, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tallerdelprado.com\/obra-de-arte\/gran-via-1-de-agosto\/?v=12470fe406d4\">Gran Via, 1 d&#8217;agost, 7.30 hores<\/a>&#8220;). La seva construcci\u00f3 es va iniciar en 1907 aquest any Anton\u00ed Gaud\u00ed havia acabat la casa principal de Torre Bellesguard i la Casa Batll\u00f3, i comen\u00e7ava la Casa Mil\u00e0. L&#8217;obra final la va dur a terme l&#8217;arquitecte Luis Esteve Fern\u00e1ndez-Caballero, autor tamb\u00e9 de diversos edificis de la Gran Via, llavors en plena construcci\u00f3, igual que la Via Laietana a Barcelona. L&#8217;eclecticisme sol anar sempre associat a les grans reformes urbanes de finals del segle XIX i principis del XX, si recorden va ser el cas de Par\u00eds en temps de Charles Garnier i Georges E. Haussmann. D\u2019altra banda, el poquet que s\u2019ha publicat es concentra en el cas de Barcelona (2) Per una llista m\u00e9s completa, veure: <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkiplus.com\/eclecticismo-en-espana\">Eclecticisme a Barcelona. <\/a><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\" lang=\"CA-ES\" xml:lang=\"CA-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">El trobem, entre altres molts edificis, a la Universitat de Barcelona (1874), d\u2019Elies Rogent, professor de Gaud\u00ed, o <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">la Casa Gallart (1898), actual Palau de les Heures, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">un edifici situat als afores de la ciutat, d\u2019August Font i Carreras, a<\/span><\/span>rquitecte que ha merescut una revisi\u00f3 de la seva obra recentment, titulada, precisament, &#8220;La Barcelona ecl\u00e8ctica&#8221; <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">(<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">3<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213535188 BCX8\">). La Casa Gallart ens recorda que, algunes vegades, l&#8217;eclecticisme -i no el modernisme- va ser l&#8217;estil triat tamb\u00e9 per fer les cases de la burguesia i l&#8217;aristocracia (Veure: <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Categor%C3%ADa:Palacios_ecl%C3%A9cticos_de_Espa%C3%B1a\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Palacios ecl\u00e9cticos de Espa\u00f1a)\u00a0 <\/span><\/a><\/span>Elias Rogent, el primer director de la recentment creada Escola d&#8217;Arquitectura, va escriure: &#8220;Hem de ser ecl\u00e9pticos&#8221;, i afegia, de manera melodram\u00e0tica, &#8220;\u00e9s a dir, vagar cont\u00ednuament buscant el desconegut&#8221;. Juan Jos\u00e9 Lahuerta, un dels \u00faltims C\u00e0tedra Gaud\u00ed, ens explica aquesta frase: d&#8217;una banda, l&#8217;eclecticisme, en encoratjar la combinaci\u00f3 d&#8217;estils, com a superaci\u00f3 dels corses de l&#8217;academicisme precedent, fomenta la llibertat art\u00edstica. Altre \u00e0mbit que va monopolitzar l&#8217;eclecticisme va ser el de les infraestructures de transport, clau de la modernitzaci\u00f3 de qualsevol ciutat, i que, a Barcelona, es tradueix tant en estacions de tren com edificis portuaris (8) Alguns d&#8217;aquests edificis, en realitat, han tingut diferents usos al llarg del temps. \u00c9s el cas, entre altres, del Casino Mercantil, obra de Tiberi Sabater i Carnet, que el va construir entre 1881 i 1883. Ha estat seu financera, coneguda com &#8220;El Bors\u00ed&#8221;, escola de Belles Arts, per poc Museu de Woody Allen i, en l&#8217;actualitat, objecte d&#8217;una reforma per a allotjar la futura Biblioteca Andreu Nin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-157538\" src=\"https:\/\/bellesguardgaudi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Casino-Mercantil.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"543\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bellesguardgaudi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Casino-Mercantil.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bellesguardgaudi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Casino-Mercantil-166x300.jpg 166w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">En resum, malgrat el menyspreu actual, a l\u2019\u00e8poca de Gaud\u00ed, durant el canvi de segle, l\u2019eclecticisme va ser l\u2019estil que va permetre a Barcelona, o a qualsevol altra ciutat europea, deixar de ser una ciutat provinciana i convertir-se en una capital cosmopolita, a partir de la construcci\u00f3 de tots els edificis p\u00fablics i privats que una gran urbs necessitava. A m\u00e9s a m\u00e9s de la seva monumentalitat, gran part del seu \u00e8xit va consistir tamb\u00e9 en la bona qualitat de les seves realitzacions. Com conclou Bassegoda el seu estudi sobre aquest estil: \u201cEn general, la arquitectura ecleticista no es fuente de grandes genialidades arquitect\u00f3nicas, pero compenso su falta de ingenio con un dominio del oficio y una cuidada realizaci\u00f3n de las soluciones constructives ensayadas, utilizadas y coprobadas en millares de experi\u00e8ncies y ejemplos\u201d (9).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fora d\u2019Europa. Per exemple, Cuba&#8230;<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A l\u2019illa caribenya, a l\u2019igual que passa a Europa i a Espanya, tampoc es possible defugir l\u2019eclecticisme, per la senzilla ra\u00f3 de que els principals edificis oficials pertanyen a aquest estil. Pel contrari, el modernisme el trobarem relegat a cases i construccions d\u2019\u00e0mbit privat, \u201cquiz\u00e1s porque el estilo fue considerado demasiado fr\u00edvolo para representar a la joven Rep\u00fablica de manera adecuada\u201d, en paraules de l\u2019historiador E. Capablanca (10), qui es refereix a la Rep\u00fablica cubana, instaurada a 1902. Hem comen\u00e7at amb l\u2019Opera de Paris, inaugurada el 1875, acabem amb el Gran Teatre de La Habana, i seu tamb\u00e9 -per cert- del Centro Gallego-, inaugurat el 1914.
