In 2026, the figure of Antoni Gaudí i Cornet will be commemorated
● The Consell Gaudí, composed of managers of Gaudí’s buildings, both public and private, have worked together to promote Gaudí Year 2026 and the roadmap for this anniversary.
● The curatorship will be led by Núria Poch, director of the Consorci Museu d’Art Contemporani de Mataró, and Galdric Santana, director of the Gaudí Chair.
● The commemoration of the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death aims to bring the work of one of the most universal Catalan architects closer to the public, through the interconnection of his works, with rigor, valuing the character and his legacy.
The Consell Gaudí, created in 2014, is composed of the managers and owners of Gaudí’s heritage, both public and private. After years of joint work, they have agreed to declare the year 2026 as Gaudí Year and have agreed on a double curatorship to be led by Núria Poch, director of the consortium that manages the Nau Gaudí de Mataró, and Galdric Santana, director of the Gaudí Chair. In addition to Gaudí’s works located in Catalonia, other territories in the state have also joined the organization of the anniversary: Casa Botines and Episcopal Palace of Astorga (León), “Capricho” de Comillas (Cantabria), and Cathedral of Mallorca (Balearic Islands). This union and joint work of all Antoni Gaudí’s works have great potential, which will materialize in a joint program for the 2026 commemoration, which is still being worked on. The Gaudí Chair has also submitted a request at the national level to declare the commemoration an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP).
Consell Gaudí
The Consell Gaudí has its origin in the “Mataró Declaration,” signed in this city in 2013, one year before the creation of the Consell, and on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Nau Gaudí. In this document, cultural entities, and notably, the current managers of Gaudí’s works, committed to working together to preserve and disseminate his legacy. The body, created in 2014, is chaired by the Minister of Culture and includes representatives of the various Gaudí buildings in Catalonia, both publicly and privately owned, as well as recognized experts in the architect’s work and representatives of various entities, institutions, and public administrations. The composition of the Consell for the Promotion and Dissemination of Gaudí’s Work is as follows: Crypt of the Colònia Güell, Casa Batlló, Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, Park Güell, Casa Calvet, Teresian College, Pavilions of the Finca Güell, Torre Bellesguard, Portal and Fence of the Finca Miralles, Nau Gaudí de Mataró, Casa Milà, Temple of the “Sagrada Familia”, and “Misteri de Glòria del Rosari Monumental de Montserrat”. Also part of the Consell are representatives from the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage; the Deputy Directorate General of Architectural, Archaeological, and Paleontological Heritage; the Catalan Cultural Heritage Agency of the Department of Culture; the National Art Museum of Catalonia; the Department of Territory; the Directorate General of Tourism of the Department of Business and Labor; the City Council of Reus; the City Council of Riudoms; the Gaudí Chair; and the experts appointed by the Minister of Culture due to their recognized knowledge of Antoni Gaudí’s work.
Núria Poch i Abeyà, curator of Gaudí Year 2026
Currently the director of the consortium that manages the “Nau Gaudí de Mataró”, headquarters of the Consell Gaudí. The Consorci Museu d’Art Contemporani de Mataró, formed by the City Council of Mataró and the Private Foundation Carmen and Lluís Bassat, aims to exhibit the Bassat Collection to help make Catalan art known. To this end, she has documented the collection and curated over forty exhibitions at the Nau Gaudí and in different cities in Spain, Europe, and the United States. In 2013, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the construction of the Nau Gaudí, she promoted, along with the city council, the “Mataró Declaration,” the first manifesto in defense of the conservation, maintenance, and dissemination of Antoni Gaudí’s legacy—signed by the owners and managers of the main Gaudí works—from which the Consell Gaudí was created the following year, a consultative body of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya that groups all the works signing the mentioned declaration.
Galdric Santana Roma, curator of Gaudí Year 2026
Currently the director of the Gaudí Chair at UPC. As an architect, musician, and builder-restorer of historical musical instruments, he works transversally in various fields of cultural heritage. His doctoral thesis, on the bells and other exterior registers of the organ of the “Sagrada Familia”, encompasses the disciplines of geometry, musical organology, physical and musical acoustics, the history of architecture, and musicology. He is a professor at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia, and at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona. He is the conservator architect of the Torre Bellesguard. He carries out research and documentation work on heritage, with special relevance in Gaudí’s work. He works on the chimes of the bells of the “Sagrada Familia”.
